Peer Reviews
Peer reviews provide an extra and external level of assurance of an OIG's adherence to laws, regulations, and established standards of performance in conducting its audit, inspection, evaluation, and investigative work. Peer reviews are conducted by an external OIG organization that is independent of the OIG under review. Peer reviews determine:
- the adequacy of the OIG's system of quality control, and
- reasonable assurance of applicable standards, policy, and procedure adherence.
The standards, policies, and procedures are set by the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE), the Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), and other applicable guidance from various Federal entities.
As OIGs are required to share the results of peer reviews on their websites, below you will find recent results of peer reviews of our audit, inspection and evaluation, and investigative functions. Information on peer reviews we conducted of other OIGs can be found in our Semiannual Reports to Congress.
Audit Peer Reviews
GAGAS requires audit organizations performing engagements in accordance with GAGAS to undergo an external peer review. The OIG is required to take corrective actions, as needed, based on the results of the peer review. Below are the results of our recent audit function peer review.

Inspections and Evaluation Peer Reviews
The CIGIE’s Quality Standards for Inspection and Evaluation (Blue Book) requires inspection organizations that are members of CIGIE to undergo a peer review. The OIG is required to take corrective actions, as needed, based on the results of the peer review. Below are the results of our recent I&E function peer review.

Investigative Peer Reviews
CIGIE’s Quality Standards for Investigations and the Quality Assessment Review (QAR) provides standards for OIGs to follow when conducting investigative peer reviews. The OIG is required to take corrective actions, as needed, based on the results of the peer review. Below are the results of our recent investigative function peer review.
